Setting Up an FTP Account

These Steps apply to WarFTP server

New Account

  1. Connect to the FTP server (10.0.0.2) and open WarFTP manager
    • Login to the FTP server console using terminal services or RDC.
    • Open WarFTP Server Manager
    • Connect with Sys-Admin user and password
    • Open Windows Explorer to the FTP volume (E:\FTP) and arrange the windows so you can see them both (tile-vertically).


  2. Create the Home Folder and User Account
    • Create a unique username for the new account and create a folder of the same name in the FTP Volume in Windows Explorer. Record the Username, Password, and Foldername on the FTP Login spreadsheet. (Z:\ITShared\Network\)
    • Create a “Welcome to Documation FTP” text file and place it in the new account folder. This is usually a text file titled “Welcome to Documation FTP.txt” and contains the text “Welcome to DOcumation's FTP service, [accountname].”
    • In the FTP manager window find and open the “UserManager” button.
    • Expand the “System” tree in the left column.
    • Right-click the “User” folder and choose “Add User”.
    • Enter the account name and click “OK” (the account name should match the new folder you created for the account.)
    • Enter a password and click “OK”.

      (Reminder: record the username and password in the FTP Login spreadsheet noted above.)
    • Expand the Users tree in the left column and select the user just created.
    • Expand the Security tree in the box in the lower center, select “File Access”.
    • Drag the account folder from the Windows Explorer window in to the box in the upper center of the FTP manager window.
    • Right click the account folder in the box in the upper center of the FTP manager window and choose “Edit”.
    • Check the box labeld “Freeze the mount point” and change the Mount Point to “/”, and click “OK”.
    • Ckeck all the boxes except “Deny” and “Hide”, and click “Close”.


  3. Test the account
    • Open Windows Explorer and type “ftp://ftp.documation.com/ in the address bar.
    • Log on using the username and password you created for the account.
    • You should be placed in the account specific FTP folder and see the “Welcome” text file you placed there.
    • Alternatively to using Windows Explorer you can use an FTP client program of your choice to test the new account is functional.
